Somin Kim, LMFT

Hi, I’m Somin, and I’m here to help you navigate life’s challenges with clarity, intention, and care. I understand that internal struggles, difficult transitions, early life experiences, and relationship conflicts can weigh you down. I became a therapist because I believe we all experience times where it is necessary to have someone understand the weight we carry and support us in making changes. I’m committed to offering this space to you so you can move forward and create the life and relationships you want most.

I believe that finding the right therapist matters, so I’ve answered a few questions below to help you decide if we’d be a good fit.

What am I like as a therapist?

I practice as a person-centered therapist and I take time to get to know each client as an individual with unique experiences, values, beliefs, and needs. It is important to me that I build a strong relationship with my clients in order to make our work together effective. I do this through listening to your story, understanding the impact of your experiences, culture and family on you, and collaborating with you on goals for therapy that are relevant and meaningful to you. In this way, my approach is adaptable– I integrate my extensive professional experience to create a path that will be best for you. My clients know me to be a careful and thoughtful listener and someone that chooses her words intentionally in order to facilitate reflection, insight, and change.

What is my training?
With advanced degrees in both Social and Organizational Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy, I bring a broad understanding of how social, cultural, family, and spiritual dynamics shape who you are. I’ve pursued extensive training to tailor my approach to each client’s needs, including EMDR, DBT, Gottman Method (Levels 1 & 2), Restoration Therapy (Levels 1 & 2), and specialty work with OCD and childhood ASD.

Who are my typical clients?
I primarily work with adults– young adults dealing with transition, middle-aged clients seeking change in their professional and personal lives, and couples navigating life stage transitions, marital conflict, and infidelity. I work with issues related to grief, immigration and transition, Christian faith, postpartum and parenting experiences, and childhood trauma. I provide therapy in Korean and enjoy working with clients that prefer to tell their story in their native Korean language.

What are the next steps to work with me?
I believe it’s important for you to feel informed and empowered in choosing your therapist as therapy is such a vulnerable and intimate process. I am happy to provide a free, 30-minute phone consultation as a space where you can ask questions, get a feel for my approach, and decide if I am the right fit for you.

Where am I located?
